Statement of the Provincial Executive Committee

5 June 2010, Mbombela Council Chamber

The Provincial committee of the ANC in Mpumalanga held its routine meeting at Mbombela Council Chambers (Nelspruit) on the 05 of June 2010.

The PEC celebrated the staging of a successful national Imvuselelo Campaign in the Province. PEC would like to thank the members of the ANC and the people of Mpumalanga who made the rally that was attended by about 40 000 members a success.

The PEC ratified the documented resolutions of the recently held Provincial General Council that was meant to review the work done in the past two years and chart the way forward to 2012. The PEC committed to implement the resolutions that call on leadership and members to unite for one and the only purpose to build strong organizational structures made up of highly capacitated members to lead society in dealing with its challenges. Unity and cohesion is paramount to the proper functioning and stability of the organization. The PEC also committed to assisting both the Women’s League and the Youth League to strengthen their branches and to convene their congresses before the end of the year.

In the next two years the Province will focus on capacitating the organizational and governance structures to be able to deal with societal challenges and accelerate service delivery. After the world cup the organization will be hard at work preparing its branches for the Local Government elections, which we are confident that people of this province will once more confirm the ANC as the only reliable leader of their aspirations.

The PEC welcome and supported the route that the Chairperson, Cde D.D. Mabuza has taken in both his personal capacity and as a premier to exercise his right to sue some media houses for defamation. The PEC calls on all people to respect the Chairpersons decision. We would also like to thank the media for having started doing so already.

The PEC congratulated Government, the provincial government and Mbombela municipality in particular, for successfully preparing for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. We call on all the people of Mpumalanga to demonstrate their support through purchasing tickets and fill up the stadium as they have outdone themselves when Bafana Bafana was playing Thailand during the opening of the stadium and during the Premier’s Cup games. Let us all now unite to make the world cup a success and incident free in the Mpumalanga Province.
