ANC response to SASCO media statement

ANC response to SASCO media statement

6 October 2010

The African National Congress has noted with regret the very unfortunate media statement by the South African Students Congress (SASCO) accusing the Mpumalanga`s Departments of Agriculture, Education and Health and Welfare of under-performance and subsequently calling for the replacement of the responsible MECs.

The ANC wishes to put it on record that we have confidence in the performance of the Mpumalanga provincial government under the leadership of Premier David "DD" Mabuza. We also respect the fact that appointment and replacement of the MECs is the prerogative of the premier after consultation with relevant structures of the movement. The premier has up to so far not indicated any intention to replace any MEC or reshuffle his cabinet.

The ANC re-iterates its support to the premier of Mpumalanga and his cabinet in their effort to deliver quality services to the people of the province as outlined in our 2009 manifesto.

We also want to state that whilst we respect the right of the organisations like SASCO to raise their views on matters affecting their constituencies, that should not be done in a manner that can seek to suggest that the province is in the state of disarray. A lot has been done around service delivery although much still needs to be done, working in partnership with the people.
